The current wet weather reminds me of a common question I hear from Vendors. Does the rain keep Buyers away? My answer is always the same – as long as it isn’t torrential, no!
It is common knowledge open homes do attract its share of tyre kickers. Don’t get me wrong, I still feel open homes are worthwhile. I wouldn’t spend my weekends opening houses if I didn’t feel they had value. And tyre kickers have their place as they do fill out the home and give the appearance the property is attractive to the market.
What I find is rainy days tend to keep the tyre kickers away, but those who do attend, are genuinely interested in the home. If someone has seen the property on the net or in the paper, has probably already driven past and has decided this may be for them, they will still show up.
A great example is sport. People still go to the Broncos, Reds, Roar, Lions etc even if it rains. Yes the numbers will be down, but many still attend. Why? Because the genuine interest is still there. However, those with the free tickets probably won’t attend because they are not that interested – they are the tyre kickers.
Which brings up my next point. If no one shows on a wet day (not torrential) don’t accept the rain as an excuse. There are obviously underlining issues which need your immediate attention, and your Agent should be discussing these with you, long before the rain sets in.
